Rotate & Flip Image Online

Fix sideways or upside-down photos, mirror selfies and turn scanned documents the right way round — with one click per step.

How to rotate or flip a photo

  1. Open the image in the editor above.
  2. Click Rotate left or Rotate right to turn it 90°. Click twice for 180°.
  3. Click Flip horizontal to mirror it left-to-right, or Flip vertical to turn it upside down like a reflection in water.
  4. Download the corrected image. Each step is applied immediately, and Undo takes you back one step at a time.

Why do photos appear sideways?

Phones and cameras usually store the picture exactly as the sensor captured it and add an orientation tag to the EXIF data that says how it should be turned. Some websites and programs ignore that tag, so the photo shows up sideways.

Tools4U reads the orientation when it opens your photo and saves the pixels the right way up, without the tag. That means the downloaded file looks correct everywhere — often you do not need to rotate it at all. If it still looks wrong, one click on Rotate fixes it permanently.

When to flip an image

  • Mirrored selfies. Many front cameras save a mirrored image, so text on clothing reads backwards. Flip horizontal makes it read correctly.
  • Design layouts. Flipping a photo can make a subject face toward the text on a page or banner instead of away from it.
  • Scans and documents. Upside-down scans need a 180° rotation (two clicks), not a vertical flip — a flip would make text mirror-written.

Rotating by 90° steps is lossless in terms of pixels: no detail is lost, only the order of the pixels changes. Quality only depends on the format and quality you choose when you download.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rotate by any angle, such as 5 degrees?

Currently the tool rotates in 90° steps and flips horizontally or vertically. These cover sideways photos, upside-down scans and mirrored selfies.

What is the difference between rotating 180° and flipping vertically?

Rotating 180° turns the picture upside down, and text is still readable when you turn your head. Flipping vertically mirrors it top-to-bottom, so text becomes mirror-written.

Does rotating reduce the image quality?

No pixels are lost when rotating in 90° steps. Choose PNG, or JPG/WebP at a high quality, to keep the download as close to the original as possible.
