How to convert an image
- Load the image you want to convert. You can open JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP files (and AVIF in browsers that support it).
- Pick the new format: JPG, PNG or WebP.
- Converting to JPG? Choose a background color for transparent areas, because JPG cannot store transparency. White is the usual choice.
- Adjust the quality for JPG or WebP in the Download panel and click Download.
Popular conversions
- WebP to JPG — when an app, printer or older program does not open WebP files you saved from the web.
- PNG to JPG — to shrink large PNG photos and screenshots that do not need transparency.
- JPG to WebP — to make website images load faster with smaller files.
- JPG to PNG — when a tool requires PNG, or you want to edit further without adding more JPG compression each time you save.
- GIF or BMP to PNG/JPG — for wider compatibility. Note that only the first frame of an animated GIF is kept.

About WebP support in Safari
Every modern browser can open WebP images, but not every browser can create them. If your browser cannot save WebP, the editor tells you and saves a PNG instead. Chrome, Edge and Firefox can create WebP files.
